Principals Academy Trust

The Nika Foundation (NF) has partnered with the Principals Academy Trust (PAT) to strengthen communication between school leadership, educators, and NF’s Academic Afterschool Programme team.

PAT is a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering school principals and leadership teams to create conducive learning environments that support continuous improvement. Its work includes mentoring and coaching school management teams, led by retired principals who bring valuable experience and insight. In addition, PAT supports teachers through an after-school development programme aimed at building confidence, addressing gaps in practice, and ensuring that quality teaching and learning remain the school’s top priority.

As part of this collaboration, Katharine Eve, a facilitator in PAT’s teacher-support programme, has joined NF’s after-school academic initiative. Kath is an experienced educator with a strong background in teaching English across multiple phases. After many years in the classroom, she transitioned into the non-profit sector, where she managed an after-school intervention programme in under-resourced schools on the Cape Flats, reaching over 1,200 learners. She continues to support teachers in the region through her work with PAT. Kath holds a BA HDE and a BEd Honours in Language and Literacy, both from UCT.

Through this partnership, the NF team at Masiphumelele High School has established clear and effective communication with the school’s leadership team and educators. This alignment has enabled the implementation of targeted after-school academic programmes that directly address areas of need identified through systemic test data. By reinforcing core educational skills in a supportive after-school environment, these programmes help learners achieve their individual best.
